This again is the highest I've seen from an IPS panel. At 25 brightness (about 140 nits), the black level of the display measures about 0.16 nits. The poor contrast ratio of 850:1 on my UL650 unit is due to the panel having a poor black level. In comparison, the UK600 model I owned had a native contrast ratio of 1100:1, which I would consider fairly typical, if not slightly above average for an IPS display.
This is the lowest I've seen among the IPS panels I've tested. Unfortunately the UL650 unit I received has a poor contrast ratio of 850:1. Performance between these two models is extremely similar. Other than that, the connectivity options are the same.
The UL series sees an upgrade to DisplayPort 1.4, vs the UK series which had 1.2. I just would prefer a less grainy AG coating like the one on the AUO 1440p 144hz panels (XB271HU, PG279Q, etc). This wasn't mentioned in really any reviews of the UK series, so for most users this might be a non-issue. Its not too bad, but among the IPS panels I've tested its definitely the most grainy/ most noticeable coating I've seen. Its particularly noticeable on mostly white screens (i.e. I do have an issue with the matte AG coating used on this monitor. Not really much else to say here- if you liked the design of the UK series, you will like the UL series. Same stand, same bezels, same matte AG coating. The build of the UL series is identical to that of the UK series.
I performed all measurements using an i1 display pro colorimeter and Displa圜al calibration software. For reference, I previously owned the 27UK600 (same panel as the UK650).ĭo keep in mind that individual units of the same model can and will vary, so the values I provide from testing may not be representative of your specific unit, or of the average performance of the model overall. Since the UK series is fairly popular among 4K gaming monitors, particularly when it comes to console usage, I thought I would provide a detailed review of the UL650 and how, if at all, it differs from the UK series. I recently received an LG 27UL650-W, the 2019 successor to the highly regarded 27UK650.
